we have put papers for registration of Kanya: Living Jewels in New Delhi, India as a trust, a non profit body. Our legal adviser has been asked to work on it speedily. Me and Ulli discussed at length the issues in front of us, tasks to be undertaken by us and other objectives and methodologies.
Major activity revolves around establishing a:
1. Women home (for ignored, exploited women), 2. Establishment of a SOS kind of a house to provide shelter to such women and children. 3.Adoption Centre for abandoned and unwanted children. 4. Support for unborn female babies. We need support in terms of people to go around into villages to show the importance of girl child and why it has to be protected. Primarily for this, we would need a woman for it besides a male who would be talking to male folks in villages and explain why it is important to allow girl child to be born and live normal life.
5. We shall have an emergency number, to be carried by police as well, so that in case they find an abandoned or dead child, they can informed us and we can take immediate action. 6. Volunteer from abroad would be welcomed to work at our various project to have experience of problem at grassroots. Interested people may get in touch with Ulli, Katja and myself for the same. 7. We would need women too, who can train local women in stitching...hence establishment of a stitching centre would be set up. 7a. An IT Centre is envisioned for girls so that they can be developed into self dependent women.
Despite much to our chagrin, we would always need funds to run all these projects. For anyone in Europe, Ulli would remain the contact person. As for as information is concerned, any of us would be most willing to come forth.
